This graphic organizer for vocabulary development encourages students to consider depth and complexity in terms and concepts they encounter. As a vocabulary generating tool, it prompts students to define words and then critically consider those definitions by facts, examples, and non-examples. This provides a richer understanding of a term or concept than just being able to quote meaning.
Frayer Model in music
Music study is overflowing with terms and concepts, several of which overlap or have subtle differences. The Frayer Model provides a way for students to gain in depth meaning for these terms, which can include examples from within their music that they are studying. This also allows for connections to be drawn between similar terms in different languages. Students gain not only a technical definition of the term but a detailed understanding of its meaning.
