Anticipation guides in literacy

The teacher builds an anticipation guide with a series of questions that pertain to key concepts out of the text.  Students need to respond to these with "yes," "no," or "maybe," making predictions based off of their previous knowledge.  This serves to both make students aware of critical issues to consider as well as activate critical prior knowledge.

Anticipation guides in music

Anticipatory guides can be used to gauge student interest and understanding of how music can be used to influence interpretations of music.  Key characteristics of the piece can be included in the anticipation guide to point attention to them for preparing students for performance.
